The law in Florida is that if one spouse earns significantly more than another spouse and the other spouse needs alimony, then the court can take that in to consideration and determine whether alimony should be ordered to be paid in this particular case. There are different types of alimony. Some are temporary, some are permanent. Some are for specific reasons, either to rehabilitate a spouse who may need to return to school to obtain a degree in order to earn comparable income to the income that the other spouse is earning.
