Frequently asked Divorce and Family Law Questions

How long will my divorce process take?

The time it takes for you to get divorced depends on the type of divorce in which you are involved.  If your divorce is a simple, uncontested divorce and there are no children from the marriage and both parties agree that there are no assets or debts to divide, then you can normally get divorced in less than 30 days, with the assistance of an attorney like myself who is knowledgeable about how to get this done.  However, if your divorce is contested and the divorcing spouses cannot agree on how to divide an asset or a debt or cannot agree on any child-related or support issues, then your divorce normally takes a much more lengthy and costly path.  A typical contested divorce in South Florida and the Treasure Coast will take many, many months to go through the court system because of the significant amount of cases that the system is currently handling.

How much will my divorce cost?

It depends on the type of divorce. A simple uncontested divorce with no children or assets or debts to divide can cost as little as $495 in attorney fees plus court costs.  Whereas a highly contested divorce where there are significant disagreements between the parties can cost thousands of dollars in attorney fees, plus court costs and other suit-related costs.

What are the court costs for a divorce?

The current court costs that the court charges to process your divorce documents if paying by credit card are $422.  However, this is subject to change at any time.
